BARR AND SURROUNDING AREA
A) BARR : At the foot of the Mount Sainte Odile and located on the wine route,
Barr has been an important winegrowing centre since the middle ages and is renown for its Grand Cru "Kirchberg de Barr".
A few tourist attractions:
- The Folie Marco Museum
- The town hall dating from 1640
- The Saint-Martin Church - Roman
- The wine path of Kirchberg, with a superb view at the top
- The old town with its spectacular houses of winegrowers and tanners
- The remains of stongholds (Haut-Andlau XIVe, Landsberg XIIIe, Spesbourg XIIIe) in the area
- The Mount Sainte Odile, 5 Km away
B) OTHER VILLAGES OF THE PIEMONT DES VOSGES: :

On the "Wine route" of Alsace:
- Mittelbergheim: one of the most beautiful villages in France, with the town hall place (XVIe) and its wine
path illustrated in cartoon format for the "Zotzenberg" grand cru
- Andlau: surrounded by 3 grands crus (Kastelberg, Moenchberg and Wiebelsberg),
abbey (Roman and XVIIe), well (XVe) with statue of Sainte Richarde and her bear
- Bernardvillé: located in a magnificent valley. Remains of the Cistercian abbey of Baumgarten (XIIe)
- Itterswiller: pretty village with a good view over the vineyards
- Nothalten: dominated by the grand cru of Muenchberg. Fountain from the XVIe
- Blienschwiller: winemaking town since VIIIe. Church with the Roman bell tower and grand cru of Winzenberg
- Dambach-la-Ville: medieval winemaking town (XVIe-XVIIe), runis of the Château du Bernstein. Wine path of Frankstein grand cru
- Gertwiller: town specialised in the manufacture of "pain d’épices", with museum
- Heiligenstein: the only town having kept the "Savagnin rosé" grape variety,
bottled under the name of "Klevener de Heiligenstein".
Spectacular panorama over the plain and the cathedral of Strasbourg
- Saint-Nabor: remains of the abbey of Niedermunster (XIIe)
- Ottrott: pagan wall (IIe) and access to Mount Sainte Odile.
Château de Lutzelbourg (XIIe) and Château de Rathsamhausen (XIIIe). Guided tours possible. Naïades aquarium
- Saint Léonard : Marqueterie Spindler
- Obernai: major tourist center. Old houses, town hall and wheat market (XVIe). Renaissance well
- Rosheim: roman church Saint-Pierre et Paul (XIIe), pagan house from the same period
2) High altitude stations for cross country skiing in winter:
- Le Hohwald: green area ideal for relaxing, walking and cross country skiing (500 - 1100 m)
- Grendelbruch: mountain station (500 - 950 m))
